Match Report | Minehead started the new league campaign on Saturday, looking to secure promotion this season. The game started at a furious pace as Minehead looked to start strong and this paid off with Nick Jones scoring from an acute angle past the despairing goalkeeper. This seemed to start a trend in the first half with goals coming at regular intervals. Jones, after some good work down the right hand side, found Weetch in space who scored with a powerful strike on goal. Archie Marsh got the third after some dominant play from Minehead which resulted in a penalty corner which was calmly put away from the centre of the goal. Luke Barker deservedly getting Minehead’s fourth goal and Jos Bennett completed the first half scoring, clearing up a good save from the goalkeeper after a fine run from Weetch down the right hand side and a good shot by Marsh; unfortunately Jos picked up an injury and took no further part in the game. Minehead started the second half as they had left the first looking dominant in attack and stable in defence and it wasn’t long before they extended the scoring through another excellent run from Luke barker with Archie Marsh scoring. Some ill-discipline from Minehead saw the home team reduced to 10 men when James Weetch was sent to the Sin-Bin for a spate of poor challenges. Luke Barker got his second of the game when a shot from James Weetch was saved into the path of Luke and he volleyed home from an acute angle. Hill converted from a penalty corner following a deflected shot from Buller. Marsh completed his hat-trick, after good play from Minehead down the right hand side which led to Jones once again breaking into the D and setting up Marsh for an easy tap in. The final goal of the game came from new captain Taylor Buller who expertly converted a penalty corner into the roof of the net. This was an impressive result for Minehead with all members of the Team contributing to the overall result. Minehead travel to Keynsham Saturday 5th October to continue their league campaign.
