Match Report | Minehead travelled away to Keynsham for an 11am start, unfortunately only travelling with 11 men due to shortages throughout all teams. Minehead although weakened in numbers, showed true grit and determination throughout the first half, playing some of their best hockey in recent years. A slightly different side rolled out with call ups for Robbie Garwood, Angus Marsh, Alex Covey and Chris Weetch, and the new boys settled into the pace of the 1st XI with ease. A few decisive breaks in the first half saw the likes of Luke Barker, Archie Marsh, Nick Jones and Alex Covey getting into the D with some skill and great positional play all four picking up a goal apiece. Nick Hill also breaking the line joined the aforementioned on the score sheet. Unfortunately Keynsham broke against the run of play to score a first half consolation goal. Freddie Wilson struggling to keep the ball out with a diving save deflecting off the top of his outstretched stick and into the roof of the net. Going into the half time break 5-1 up Minehead felt the game was done and dusted, however they knew that the fatigue of playing with 11 would soon play a part in the end result. There were no more goals for Minehead in the 2nd half and the team absorbed a lot of pressure from an invigorated Keynsham side. The goals came at regular intervals and it was soon apparent that a major upset was on the cards. Minehead kept their cool heads and managed to prevent a 5th goal resulting in a narrow victory for the current league leaders. Considering the shortfall of players this was a brilliant result and one to use as a confidence builder for the next few games. Minehead & District Social Club Man of the Match: Luke Barker Minehead: Freddie Wilson, Nick Hill, Andrew Covey, Taylor Buller, Nick Jones, Luke Barker, Archie Marsh, Angus Marsh, Alex Covey, Chris Weetch, Robbie Garwood. |
