1st XI Vs South Glos

Minehead hosted South Gloucester in game week 3 of the Verde Recro Hockey League which ended up being a fiery encounter from both sides.

South Gloucester started off the game with more of the possession and coming out the starting blocks faster than Minehead, however Minehead’s defence held strong and managed to keep it to 0-0 for most of the half.

Minehead grew into the game and started to dominate possession this result in Minehead getting a breakthrough, James Weetch who finished off from close range with a good move from Minehead down the right between Nick Jones and Alex Covey.

Minehead spruced up the performance early in second half with more possession and better moves forward, as Minehead looked to dominate and extend their lead which they managed through a short corner and a slick finish from captain Taylor Buller in the bottom corner.

From many stops and starts Minehead lost their rhythm and concentration which lead to some ill-discipline which allowed South Gloucester to get back into the game with 4 quick fire goals 3 from short corners and an excellent shot which flew into the roof of the net past a diving Freddie Wilson.

This passage of play saw them lose midfield maestro Angus Marsh to a ruptured Achilles who’s looking to return later in the season.

This put Minehead in the back seat. In the last 10 minutes Minehead fought back and managed to get a good finish from Nick Hill from a short corner to put them back in the game, Minehead had a chance as the final whistle went as they won a short corner again, however the South Gloucester keeper pulled of a fine diving save from a Buller’s shot at goal, meaning Minehead had lost their first game of the season 4-3.

Minehead Travel to Bristol University C team on Saturday 19th October looking to get back to winning ways.
