Match Report | Minehead: 5 Marlborough A: 2 Minehead travelled to Marlborough in game week 6 of the Verde Recreo Hockey League. Marlborough got off the better of the teams having most of the opening possession and territory in the Minehead half. However, Minehead defence held strong keeping Marlborough chances limited to a few. Minehead grew into the game well looking to assert themselves then just past the 15-minute mark a speedy counter attack left the Marlborough defence vulnerable as some good play by Caple and Weir lead to Rob Speed finishing off a well worked move. Marlborough hit back straight away after some Ill-discipline from Minehead which saw Rob Speed sent to the sin-bin after some disagreements with the umpires, Marlborough scored through a well worked play which left their attacker un-marked at the back post for a simple tap in that nothing goalkeeper Wilson could do about. Minehead continued to have the run of play having most of the possession which lead to another goal from the Minehead attack, this time Nick Bennett beating the keeper to the ball and finishing with a good deflection. Once again Marlborough hit back straight away with a goal from a short corner which was hit low past the keeper’s right. Some more ill-discipline left Minehead with 10 men again while Chris Weetch got sent to the sin bin, in this time Minehead re-took the lead with another good counter-attack where it saw good work again from Weir and Caple down the right hand side which was calmly put away on the reverse stick from speed once again. Minehead went into half 3-2 up having dominated most play in the first half. The second half wasn’t quite such an entertaining half as Minehead had most of the position and looked to control the game from midfield, Minehead took full advantages of this when after some sustained pressure a flurry of penalty corners were won which lead to Taylor Buller calmly putting home from close range. Minehead were suddenly reduced to 9 men halfway through the 2nd half when Nick Hill and Ian Jeans were both sin binned one shortly after the other, this didn’t stop Minehead controlling the game as Minehead went back to full strength, Minehead won another shorter corner and another good routine led to Nick Bennett slotting the ball past Marlborough Keeper. Marlborough had some good possession towards the end of the half as Minehead XI started to tire but the defence held strong and Minehead saw off the game 5-2 for another good win on the road.
