Match Report | Minehead headed East for the second time this season as they took on West Wilts A in what would turn out to be a spirited and disciplined performance from a confident Minehead 1st Team, coming off the back of a 10-0 victory against 4th place in the league. Unfortunately despite their confidence, Minehead would soon find themselves 2 – 0 down, thanks to some clever play by the West Wilts team. Nick Jones took it upon himself to close the gap with a great run through the middle finishing tidily in the bottom corner, closely followed by the every present Archie Marsh bringing the scores level. Archie now taking his tally to 10 goals for the season, and leading the top scorers chart for Minehead. Nick Hill would be the next to step up for Minehead as a penalty flick was awarded, Nick with his usual calm approach slotted this away to put Minehead in front. Sadly this lead was short lived and West Wilts scored within minutes to draw level. Freddie Wilson had a superb first half in goal, making a couple of excellent saves, as the unexpected pressure continued. Despite a strong first half from the West Wilts team they would not score again, and this is down to the aforementioned keeping and a great defensive display headed up by Taylor Buller. Minehead took the game into their own hands in the second half and Rob Speed claimed the fourth goal of the day, a fantastic run through the ‘D’ beating three players and giving himself enough space to finish. Captain Taylor Buller, popped up again with another short corner goal, this time with a tidy drag flick to the bottom corner. After a shaky start to the game Minehead held their nerve and ended outright winners at 5-3. Freddie Wilson earning himself Man of the Match with numerous saves including an outstanding second half save from a penalty corner. Minehead now sit 2nd in the league and play hosts to top of the table Mendip this Saturday.
