Minehead: 4

Mendip: 2

Minehead played hosts to top of the table Mendip, with the opportunity of overtaking them in the league. Minehead knew this would be a tough weekend and captain Taylor Buller worked hard to ensure there was a full capacity side available.

Minehead started the game well, making multiple breaks deep into the Mendip half. The Weetch brothers James and Chris linking up well in the middle with assistance from Nick Bennett, Rob Speed, Luke Barker, Archie and Angus Marsh. It wasn’t long before Luke Barker made the breakthrough, with a smart darting run into the D and a clever finish.

Mendip replied quickly and levelled the score, the defensive line of Minehead unable to keep out a decent break from the away side. With heads slightly dropped, Minehead attacked again and it fell to Angus Marsh to put Minehead in the lead again. Angus although not playing much this season through injury, kept a cool head and dispatched the ball neatly into the corner of the Mendip goal.

At half time with the score at 2-1 Minehead felt their first half performance was adequate, yet there was room for improvement. Minehead stepped up their performance in the second half and Rob Speed joined Marsh and Barker on the score sheet. The blonde haired whippet, breaking through the midfield, playing a neat pass across to Weetch, who slotted the ball through a gap back to Rob who had continued his run. Rob calmly entered the D and slid the ball passed the approaching goalie.

Mendip, showing why they were top of the table, immediately responded, and amounted a lot of pressure. The defensive line played well to soak up this pressure but it was inevitable that a breakthrough would come. Mendip taking a quick free hit, straight into the D and a deflection drew the scores closer at 3-2.

Unfortunately for the away side this would be the last time they entered the Minehead D, and Minehead surmounted their own pressure on the away goal. A resulting penalty corner was neatly finished off by Taylor Buller, who so far this season has scored regularly from the set play. A true captains performance.

Minehead finished the game well, controlling the play and stopping Mendip getting themselves back into the tie. The game finishing 4-2 to the home side, pushing them to the top of the table. A great all round performance from the team.
