Match Report | Central 2 Minehead: 6 Keynsham: 2 Minehead entertained Keynsham on a rare bright Saturday afternoon at home. Minehead started the brighter with James Weetch returning to form to finish off a good move in the opening minutes. The pressure continued, and a break from Jos Bennett, saw the ball passed to Nick Bennett, James Weetch picking the ball up and winning a penalty flick. Nick Hill stepped up to the plate and finished neatly in the top right corner. Keynsham grew into the game and were rewarded pulling a goal back before half time. Freddie Wilson returning from injury made several vital saves allowing Minehead to hold their lead at the break. Minehead started the 2nd half sprightly and were awarded their first short corner of the match, Nick Hill and James Weetch playing a training ground routine with Hill slotting the ball home. It seemed that Minehead were on top of their set-play game and a further two short corners were neatly finished off by Hill giving him four goals for the day and taking him to the top of the Minehead top scorers chart. Keynsham, not completely out of the game at 5-1 continued to build attacks with one breaking the home sides defence and a neat finish from an acute angle gave them their second goal of the day. Minehead, finished the stronger side and James Weetch claimed his second of the day to complete the scoring and cementing the result at 6-2. Minehead showed great strength and confidence in what was one of their hardest games of the season and the midfield alliance of Nick Jones, Rob Speed and Chris Weetch were instrumental in the result. Mark Bolton stepping up to the firsts for a second time this season didn’t look out of place and the defensive line were solid in the most part with only a couple of minor errors. Minehead head away to second place South Gloucester next Saturday in what promises to be a close game with just three points separating the sides Minehead & District Social Club Man of the Match: Nick Hill Minehead: Freddie Wilson, Taylor Buller, Nev Weir, Ian Jeanes, Rob Speed, Nick Jones, Nick Hill, Nick Bennett, Jos Bennett, Chris Weetch, James Weetch, Mark Bolton |
