Match Report | Minehead: 1 Weston-Super-Mare: 0 Minehead 1st XI travelled away this weekend to Weston-Super-Mare to try and continue their 100% record for 2020. This game historically has always been a bit of a local derby for the teams and Minehead have struggled in the past to get across the line when travelling to play Weston. Minehead, started the match in their usual attacking way making a number of decent runs and chances flourished, with some great attacking runs from Rob Speed and Luke Barker. Unfortunately the defence of Weston held strong and they were unable to get the early breakthrough. Minehead did eventually break the deadlock through a deflection close to the goal from James Weetch, following another good break. Minehead nearly went 2-0 up when a shot on goal from Jos Bennett was cleared off the defenders feet, the umpire unfortunately disagreed that the shot was on target and awarded a short corner instead of the penalty flick, and Minehead were unable to convert. Going into the break Minehead felt that they had underplayed compared to their recent form and improvements were required in the second half. James Weetch made the change to the front line from his pivot position to try and assist, but this was unfortunately fruitless. Minehead keeper Freddie Wilson had an impeccable game and earnt himself man of the match with another clean sheet. Although Minehead pressured well during the game the illusive second goal didn’t come, and the game finished 1-0.
