Match Report | Following their first win of the season last week, Minehead A continued their struggles away from home as they were comprehensively beaten 8-1 by a clinical Chard side. Chard took an early lead from a short corner and backed it up with a quick duo of goals to take them 3-0 up inside the first 20 minutes. During this period, stone wall like defender Simon Strong was forced off the pitch having taken a blow to the side of the head, leaving him looking alarmingly reminiscent to Dumbo the elephant due to the swelling behind his ear. Thanks to some gritty and determined play from midfielders Rory Capel and Robin Fieldhouse, Minehead rallied and through Darren Meecham, they responded before the break to make it 3-1 at half time. Coming out after the break, Minehead were hoping to soar back into contention, but were soon brought back down to earth as a flurry of goals gave Chard an unassailable lead. As the game drew to a close, Chard continued to press home their advantage, seemingly scoring goals at will in spite of stout defending from Steve Thompson and Claude Mahlich. When the whistle was finally blown (much to goalkeeper Brandon Rawle’s delight) Chard had picked clean the Minehead carcass to claim a commendable haul of 8 goals, as Minehead were left battered by ruthless display of goal scoring.
