Match Report

Minehead A: 9

Yeovil & Sherbourne A: 3

Following the cancellation of Minehead A’s previous match, they entered this weekend’s fixture refreshed and ready to get back involved in this seasons competition. The result proved the thirst for victory with a decisive display resulting in a 9 – 3 victory against Yeovil & Sherborne A.

Historically this fixture has always been a hotly contested match, with a lot of onfield passion showing through from both teams. Minehead dominating the early minutes of the game, taking the lead through Nick Bennett, closely followed by a goal from Robin Fieldhouse. Nick and Robin shared the spoils of the first half with Nick completing the hat-trick before half time and Robin picking up two well-earned goals.

Newcomer Luke Orpin returning to the sport after a 4 year sabbatical, picked up his first goal of the season during the first half with Yeovil managing to squeeze in a consolation goal. Minehead entered the half time break an astonishing 7-1 up, having played with grit and determination similar to that of a pack of ravaging hyenas.

Unfortunately, due to a change of tactics from the Yeovil defence, some might say a change of sport, American Football springs to mind, Minehead were shut down in the second half. They did however manage to score a further two goals, another for both Nick and Robin who it is fair to say both had phenomenal matches.

Yeovil, took advantage of a tiring Minehead side to score two second half goals against the stand in goalkeeper Simon Strong who had a solid debut in goal for Minehead, however this was only a very small victory for Yeovil in what was a domination of the field by Minehead. Roll on next weekend when Minehead take on West Dorset A currently 2nd from bottom in the South East 1 League.
