Match Report | South East 1 Minehead A: 2 Chard: 5 Minehead played host to 2nd place Chard this weekend. Chard started the better team as was to be expected by their league position. Despite piling on the pressure Chard were unable to make the breakthrough until towards the end of the first half. Minehead playing out of their skin to deny any chances that arose. Unfortunately for the home side a goal was conceded before the break and Chard entered hald time 1-0 up. Minehead felt they had performed well in the first half and rightly so holding a quality team to only a 1 goal advantage. Unfortunately the second half started in the worst possible way with a breakaway Chard goal. At 2-0 down Minehead pulled together and their team spirit shone through, and a couple of short corners were awarded, the first finished neatly by John Clegg from half a yard out and the second by the ever present Daz Meecham finishing from the top of the D. All square at 2-2 Minehead continued to pressurise the travelling team, however Chard were good on the counter attack and managed to break a few times and were decisive in front of goal. Scoring 3 more before the final whistle. Minehead worked hard throughout and there were decent performances across the pitch with Paul Stevens being a stand out player and earning himself man of the match. Man of the Match: Simon Strong Minehead: Mark Swallow, Dom Bowden, Daz Meecham, John Clegg, Paul Stevens, William Pringleton, Chris Weetch, Kieran Jones, Alex Covey, Mark Collins, Tom Panton, Shane Heale, Ash Tisshaw |
